Ride Report : Forbes Weekend 1st April 2017
We left Mittagong McDonalds at a little after 8am with 9 bikes and 1 quad and travelled down Hume Highway to Marulan. Here we picked up Lynette and Denis and after a short chat and quick toilet breaks we head off to Goulburn, then on to Crookwell for morning tea.
The weather was a little cool but beautiful and clear, and the country look stunning after all the recent rain as we travelled on through Boorowa and on to Young for lunch. We stopped at the Bakery at the bottom end of town which is always a good venue with plenty of seating and a good selection of food.
After lunch we headed off to Forbes via Grenfell. Here we meet up with Maurice, being a local, he took the lead to take us in to Forbes. Never trust a local, as it wasn’t long before he sailed straight past the turn off to Forbes. After a quick u turn we were back on the right road and soon at our accommodation. Well some of us, entering Forbes a few were separated from the group. One couple were following Denis and Lynette, think that they might know which way to go but were totally confused when at the next intersection Denis went one way and Lynette went the other. Eventually everyone made it to the motel.
After a wander around the town and a couple of drinks in the various local pubs, we all ambled up to the local services club for dinner, a few drinks, chatter, entertainment and a few nearly won big on the Keno.
Sunday was another beautiful clear day and after breakfast we head off through Canowindra and on to Blayney for morning tea. After coffee and a bit of a look around the group split up a bit with Tarn and Steve, and Bruce and Sharlene opting to go through Katoomba. Maurice headed back to Bogan Gate. The rest of us headed for Oberon but in two groups, Lynette, Denis, Geoff, Des, Ian & I were going to stop at Oberon for lunch. Manny, Bob, Trevor and Jeanette were going to push on to Taralga Pub for lunch. We said our goodbyes and set off.
We had lunch at Oberon and after about an hour break head off down tablelands way, it was a good run with a bit of road work on the hill coming down to the Abercrombie river. The only incident was, what Lynette referred to as hoons, rounding us up as we came out of Black Springs. She didn’t know it was the other group lead by Manny until we told her at Marulan. We weren’t quite sure which route they had taken, but it was obviously the long way round.
All up we had 11 bikes, 1 Quad and 16 people and I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend as much as I did.
